Things to check before you book a holiday

Booking a holiday is really exciting, but it’s important not to rush into it to ensure that you don’t come across any problems down the line. By taking your time, you can guarantee that everything will go to plan.

Here, we share some of the things to check before you book a holiday which could prevent issues as your trip gets closer.

Check your passport

This might sound obvious, but if you’re travelling abroad you must have a valid passport. This means that your passport must be in date, and that all details are accurate. When flying with most airlines, the name on your booking must match the name on your password, so double check that everything is spelt correctly before you make that booking. You may be charged an admin fee if you have to change it in the future.

See if you need a visa

Some countries will require you to have a visa in order to go on holiday there. These allow you to stay in the country for a certain amount of time, usually up to 3 or 6 months depending on where you’re going. The best thing to do is to check on the government website to see whether you need a visa to enter your desired country. There is often a fee associated with applying for a visa, so make sure that you’re happy to pay this before you go ahead with booking your trip.

Take time off work

If you need to take annual leave from work in order to go on holiday, it is always advised to organise the time off before you book your trip. This way you won’t risk being told that you’re needed on the days that you’ve planned to be out of the country. It’s much safer to have everything agreed in writing before paying for your getaway.
