Four things to do in Antigua

Surrounded by coral reefs and boasting picturesque surroundings, the Caribbean island of Antigua is the perfect place for a far-flung holiday in paradise. Here, we share four things you can do during your time here.

Swing through the trees

Make your way through Antigua’s treetops with Antigua Rainforest Zipline Tours. With a number of different tours of varying lengths to choose from, you can select an option that best suits your itinerary. For the ultimate experience, choose the full tour which takes around 2 and a half hours and includes everything from plank bridges and rope swings to a zip line (known as the Screamer for obvious reasons) that’s almost 100m in length!

Head to Shirley Heights

For amazing views that you’ll remember for a lifetime, head to Shirley Heights which offers panoramas across the ocean. Formerly a military lookout and gun battery, Shirley Heights is now a popular place with both locals and tourists, especially on Sundays when people gather to watch the sunset and then enjoy a party with live music, drinks, and a barbeque.

See Devil’s Bridge

Those who enjoy a little challenge while on holiday should head to Devil’s Bridge during their time in Antigua. A result of the Atlantic Ocean crashing into the coast, the Devil’s Bridge is a limestone arch surrounded by geysers and blowholes. Although you’re not allowed to swim at the Devil’s Bridge, you can walk across it at your own risk.

Take a hike

There are a couple of wonderful places that you can hike to in Antigua. First are the Pillars of Hercules which can be reached via a hiking trail starting at Galleon Beach. These rock pillars are surrounded by peaceful beaches, and many come here for excellent diving and snorkelling opportunities.

The second destination is Fort Berkeley. Start at the Superyacht Dock at Nelson’s Dockyard and keep an eye out for unrivalled views across the harbour as you make your way to the fort, and admire the 25 canons that defend it.
