Tips for travelling without an itinerary
Although planning a holiday down to the smallest detail can bring peace of mind, it can also take away from the excitement of your trip. Going with the flow and finding spontaneous adventures can bring extra fun and enjoyment to your break, especially if you’re visiting somewhere you haven’t been before. If this sounds a bit daunting, read our tips for travelling without an itinerary and we’re sure that you’ll feel comfortable enough to embrace spontaneous travel soon.
Plan the outline of your trip
Before setting off on holiday, you’ll of course want to know your final destination, which means that booking flights won’t be an issue. Once you know where you’re going and how long you’re going to be there for, we suggest booking accommodation in a central location surrounded by plenty to see and do. This means that different activities will be far more accessible to you. Try to select somewhere that you can cancel if necessary, as this gives you the freedom to switch location part wat through your holiday if you like.
Talk to locals
Once you arrive in your destination, you can get chatting to those who know it best: the locals! By chatting to people who live in the area you’ve travelled to, you can find out about hidden gems, great bars and restaurants, and nearby places that you might like to venture to. Locals are far more likely to give you an honest review than research from home will provide you with, so trust them to make your trip extra special.
Follow your passions
Although you may feel like you should be visiting top tourist attractions, this won’t add anything to your holiday it they aren’t something that you’re interested in. Like running? Take your gym stuff and find some great local routes. Fancy a foodie trip? Ask around and find a fantastic local cooking class. It’s your holiday, so spend it doing things that make you happy!
