Top places to visit in Croatia

Croatia has increased in popularity as a holiday destination over recent years, mostly due to its beautiful scenery, gorgeous beaches, lovely architecture, and friendly locals.

Depending on where you are hoping to fly into, it will take between 2 and a half and 4 and a half hours to travel from London to Croatia, and here are some of the top places to visit if you are planning a trip there.

Dubrovnik

Known for its unique beauty, Dubrovnik is many people’s first choice when they decide to visit Croatia as this city boasts a UNESCO World Heritage Site Old Town that simply has to be seen to be believed. The town is surrounded but the old city wall which you can walk around, and there are plenty of lovely places to sit and have food and a drink while you watch the world go by.

Within the Old Town you will also find the Onofrio Fountain, the Franciscan Monastery, and the Rector’s Palace which is now a museum where you can learn all about the city’s history and see a number of interesting exhibits.

Split

Croatia's second largest city, Split is a port city and benefits from being located in between the Adriatic Sea and the mountains, making it a truly mesmerising place to visit.

Diocletian’s Palace is a must-see, as this UNESCO World Heritage Site takes up half of the city’s Old Town which makes it quite hard to miss! With cobbled streets lined with shops, cafes and hotels to discover, you’ll feel like you have stepped back in time when you enter this fascinating place.

Zagreb

The capital of Croatia, Zagreb is situated inland so it not suitable for a beach holiday, but is a very interesting city to explore. Divided into three parts, the Upper Town which is where you can discover its history and culture, the Lower Town which boasts theatres, eateries, and parks, and New Zagreb (which has little to offer tourists but is worth a mention), you are sure to find plenty to do here!

These are just some of the top places to visit in Croatia, and with lots to discover you should definitely consider taking a holiday to this amazing country.
