Here, we share some ideas for things to do during a day in Lisbon, and we think that you will agree that there is truly something for everyone to enjoy during a visit here.

Admire the architecture

Throughout Lisbon you will be charmed by pretty pastel coloured buildings and impressive architecture, and one example that you simply cannot miss is the Torre de Belém. Located in the city’s Belém area, this 16th century tower is one of Lisbon’s most iconic landmarks, and boasts a combination of architectural styles that really make it stand out.

Next, head to St. George’s Castle. Built by the Romans over 2000 years ago, this castle sits above the city’s Old Town and offers amazing views over the city. It is also a fun place for kids to explore if you are travelling as a family.

Take the tram

Tram 28 is an important part of Lisbon’s history, and a trip on this decades old tram will lead you up steep cobbled roads while you watch castles and palaces pass by. The tram heads into Lisbon’s Old Town, the Alfama District, where you can get lost in winding streets as you see how the city looked in the past.

This district offers the perfect opportunity for people watching, so take time to rest in one of its al fresco cafés and enjoy watching the world go by.

Visit some museums

Lisbon is home to a whole range of fascinating museums, so there is sure to be one that interests you. To discover Portugal’s impressive art collection, visit the National Museum of Ancient Art, where you will find a number of different exhibitions spanning the 16th to 19th centuries.

For something a bit more modern, visit the Berardo Collection Museum instead. Here, you can see everything from expressionism pieces and photography to digital art installations!
