Located in the Mediterranean Sea, Gozo is a small island with a population of just 31,000 people, but it offers plenty for visitors to see and do no matter what time of year they visit! Here are some of our favourite things to do in Gozo.
Diving in Gozo
Gozo is one of the best places to dive in the Mediterranean due to the amazing variety of things there are to discover under the water. No matter how much diving experience you have, you’ll be able to find an incredible dive site that you feel comfortable exploring. Boasting great visibility and warm, calm water throughout the year, Gozo attracts divers who come to see everything from arches and caves to tunnels and shipwrecks. Plus the sea life is very impressive too.
There are loads of fantastic dive sites to visit, one of the most popular being the Blue Hole, and they can be reached either by boat or directly from the shore.
Eating and drinking in Gozo
As with many Mediterranean holiday destinations, Gozo boasts fresh, local food that is just as healthy as it is delicious. Favourites include ftira, a leavened bread made in the shape of a ring and filled with everything from sardines or tuna to fresh tomato and onions, ġbejniet, a traditional sheep milk cheese, and pastizzi, which are miniature savoury pastries. When it comes to drinking, don’t leave without trying Gozitan full-bodied wine or a local craft beer.
Cycling in Gozo
Cycling has become more popular in Gozo over recent years, and offers the perfect way to explore the island, simply choose whether you’d prefer to rent a bike or take a guided tour. Glide along smooth roads, tackle narrow alleyways, or take on the island’s three hills using a number of convenient cycle routes. The best time to cycle around Gozo is between October and May when the weather is cooler but the greenery is lush and pretty.
