Nicole's home from home - Amsterdam

I couldn’t have asked my parents to move to a better place…AMSTERDAM! Each time I go home and visit my family, there is always something new, fun and exciting to see. If you have never been before, the best way to see as much as possible is to hire a bike! I would recommend starting at Vondle Park and having a Gin and Bitterballens for 5 euros (deal between 12 – 5pm) in this cute bar/restaurant in the corner of the park by the Leidseplein entrance. Then you should cycle around the park, taking in the beautiful scenery, making your way back to the Leidseplein entrance were you can see the pretty canals, river boats and Dutch pancake shops. Cycling through the busy streets, you will witness the weird and quirky architecture of the unique buildings, as each building is different.

As well as cycling around, you can also take a tour boat through the 3 famous canals, passing the Ann Frank House on Prinsengracht and cruising through the Herengracht and Keizersgracht.

Amsterdam has a great night life scene to suit everyone, with bars and clubs scattered all around the city, such as the famous Ice Bar (which is really really cold!) and the Heineken Experience. If you have an interest in Art then you can go to the Museumplein where you will be surrounded by the Van Gough museum, Famous Diamond Museums and of course, the I AMSTERDAM sign.

To eat, Amsterdam offers everything to Ramen, American Food, China Town and the traditional Dutch cuisine. If you go to Amsterdam, you should book a table at one of the small authentic restaurants along the Prinsengracht.

If you are looking for a romantic break away, a friend’s holiday or a solo getaway, Amsterdam is a great city that you shouldn’t miss!
