The UK’s Best Cycle Routes

If your ideal holiday involves exploring parts of the UK on two wheels then we are sure that you will be interested in what you can expect from a short break to one of the UK’s best cycle routes, so here we share some details about our three favourites!

Box Hill Olympic Circuit – Surrey

Used as a circuit in the 2012 Olympic Games, the Box Hill circuit gives you the opportunity to spend your break cycling through stunning scenery for 19km, with 2.5km of this distance being a challenging ascent for both beginners and those with a little bit more experience.

Now one of the UK’s most popular cycle routes, the Box Hill Olympic Circuit provides views of the River Mole from the top so you can expect a relaxing outlook when you reach this milestone.

Assynt Achiltibuie Circuit – Highlands, Scotland

Head to the Highlands for a cycle route that boasts amazing natural beauty and enables you to ride past a number of impressive mountains including Sula Bheinn, Cùl Mòr and Stac Pollaidh.

You'll start your adventure in Achiltibuie and then cycle for a day through breathtaking scenery and along coastal roads. You'll also see Lock Assunt and the Ardvreck Castle ruins, so there definitely won’t be a dull moment during your Scottish cycling holiday!

Elan Valley – Powys, Wales

Suitable for all abilities, the Elan Valley cycle route in Wales starts at Cwmdauddwr and takes cyclists through the valley, woods, and countryside before ascending past Garreg Ddu Reservoir where you will have plenty of amazing photo opportunities to take advantage of.

This route finishes at Craig Goch Dam but there are also a number of increasingly difficult mountain bike options you could choose from instead if you’re after a more adrenaline-filled break.

With such great cycle routes available in the UK there really is no need to head any further afield for your cycling holiday, or maybe it could just be a warm-up to taking your bike to another country when you’re feeling confident enough to do so. There really is no limit to what you could discover on two wheels!
