A Family Staycation Adventure: Two Weeks Exploring the UK
After years of jetting off abroad, our family decided it was the perfect time to explore our own back garden – and the UK has certainly delivered! Over two weeks, we’ve hopped between charming hotels, taking in some of the best Britain has to offer. From the beautiful coastlines of Cornwall to the rolling hills of the Lake District, each stop has felt like a new world.
Our journey began in the Cotswolds, where we stayed in a quaint, family-run inn. The cobblestone streets and honey-coloured cottages were everything we’d imagined, with local walks and cosy pubs serving as perfect introductions to our staycation. From there, we headed to Cornwall, staying in a seaside hotel with stunning views of the sea. We spent our days exploring beaches, climbing over rocks, and even braving the British sea for a chilly swim. Fish and chips on the beach made for a simple yet unforgettable supper!
Halfway through, we switched gears and travelled up to the Lake District. Nestled beside Windermere, our hotel had panoramic views of misty mountains and shimmering waters. The children loved exploring the local trails and taking a boat out on the lake, while we indulged in afternoon tea and hearty local dishes.
Our final leg took us to Edinburgh, where the mix of history and modern charm brought our trip to a splendid end. Staying in a historic city-centre hotel, we explored castles, ghost tours, and vibrant festivals before heading home.
This staycation reminded us that we don’t always need to leave the UK for a holiday to remember. From cosy inns to grand city hotels, each stop was a reminder of Britain’s beauty, right here at home.
