Three Great European Weekend Breaks

You might think that a two-day weekend isn’t long enough for a European mini break, but we are really lucky in the fact that there are lots of great places which can be reached within a few of hours from the UK.

Here, we share three great European weekend breaks that you can enjoy even when you don’t have much time to spare.

Lille, France

The beautiful city of Lille in France is just over an hour’s drive from the port in Calais, so once you’ve sailed across the Channel on an hour and a half crossing you’re already halfway there! Wander around the city’s stunning Old Town where you can explore cobbled streets and admire 17th century buildings before settling down in the Grand Place square for some food and a drink. Due to it being a student city, you’ll find that the atmosphere here is very warm and welcoming, and you can opt to experience some lovely bars when night falls too.

Geneva, Switzerland

It takes less than 2 hours to fly to stunning Geneva from most UK airports, and you’ll feel like you’re much further away from home when you start exploring. Marvel at the city’s famous lake, find somewhere to enjoy delicious cheese fondue, and window shop in some of the high-end shopping areas. For amazing views, head out of the city to Téléphérique du Salève, a cable car that will take you up Mont Salève where you’ll be rewarded with views as far as Mont Blanc.

Dublin, Ireland

For a fun-packed weekend that’s sure to be just as lively as it is cultural, head to Dublin on a flight that will take just over an hour from many UK airports. Discover how Guinness is made on a tour of the famous Storehouse, have a drink in the well-known Temple Bar, and soak up some culture in one of the city’s many museums before finding somewhere great to eat.
